Arvid Lindblad retirement leads to shortened Canadian Grand Prix
F1 rookie Arvid Lindblad experienced a gearbox issue with his Racing Bulls just before the Canadian Grand Prix was about to commence. The formation lights on the grid at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve stayed illuminated for an extended period, indicating a problem. Second-place starter Kimi Antonelli cautiously moved out of his spot as the lights did not turn off promptly. Lindblad’s gearbox malfunction led to him being wheeled into the pit lane by the marshals as he struggled to engage a gear, ultimately retiring from the race. Race control called for an additional formation lap due to the delay, reducing the race distance from 70 to 68 laps.
